These treats are very popular type of street food in the Philippines! Of course, that comes as no surprise because they are very easy to make and the ingredients used are relatively inexpensive! The type of bananas used in this recipe, known as saba bananas, should be at any of your local Asian grocery stores.
Ingredients:
- 3 saba bananas
- 2 pcs Japanese sweet potatoes
- 1/2 cup brown sugar or panocha
- Vegetable oil, for deep frying
Directions:
- Peel the potatoes and slice about half an inch thick. Set aside.
- Peel the bananas.
- In a pot, heat the oil on a medium high heat.
- When the oil is hot, add the banana and cook for about 3 minutes.
- Turn the heat to medium low. Add the brown sugar and cook the banana for another couple of minutes or until the banana is covered with the caramelized sugar.
- Transfer to a dish brushed with oil.
- Next, add the potatoes and fry until tender and golden brown. Stir until the potato is covered with the caramelized sugar.
- Carefully insert skewers on each banana.
- Insert sweet potatoes on each skewers.
- Serve while warm. Enjoy!
