Champorado

Champorado is a Filipino dish made of sticky rice and cocoa powder. It’s more like a rice pudding and is traditionally eaten for breakfast. They’re both delicious warm or cold and is good with evaporated milk. If you like chocolate this is a good dish to try.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sweet glutinous rice
  • 12 cups water
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar or more as needed
  • 3/4 cup dutch cocoa powder

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, add the glutinuos rice and rinse couple of times.
  2. Place the rice in a pot and add 12 cups of water. Bring to a boil.
  3. In a small bowl, add the cocoa powder and add about half a cup of boiling water.
  4. Stir until all the cocoa powder has dissolved and no more lumps.
  5. Add the cocoa mixture to the rice.
  6. Add the sugar and stir.
  7. Simmer for 40 minutes until the rice is tender.
  8. Drizzle with evaporated milk on top. Yum!

Note:

If the rice gets too thick, just add more water until you reach the consistency you prefer.
