Easy to make and yet so versatile, simple marinara has countless possibilities! Serve with mozzarella stick or calamari dip, on top of pizzas, or in spaghetti. It’s mildly sweet and tangy with a hint of spice.
Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 cloves of garlic, grated
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 4 cups tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp pepper flakes
- 2 tbsp fresh basil, finely chopped, or 1 tsp dried basil
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped, or 1 tsp dried parsley
- Salt and pepper
Directions:
- In a pot, add the oil and garlic. Saute until soft.
- Add the onions and saute for another two minutes.
- Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, red wine, and lemon juice. Stir.
- Add the sugar, pepper flakes, basil, and parsley.
- Bring to a boil and simmer for an hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve with your favorite dish and enjoy!
