Pulled Pork Sandwich with Barbecue Sauce

Shred the pork and serve with ciabatta roll and barbecue sauce.

Back to the States we go for this recipe! Below, you’ll learn how to make the pulled pork needed to complete these sandwiches. Ciabatta rolls cut in two will work great to complete the look and taste!

Ingredients:

  • 4 lbs pork shoulder
  • 10 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 1 big yellow onion, quartered
  • 5 bay leaves
  • 1 cup water

Dry rub:

  • 2 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp coriander
  • 3 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 packet Mazola tomato powder

Directions:

  1. Mix all the ingredients for the dry rub.
  2. Rub it in the meat and marinate overnight.
  3. Place the marinated beef in a pot with garlic, onions, bay leaves, and water.
  4. Bring to a boil and simmer for 2 hours until meat is tender. Allow to cool.
  5. Shred the meat and simmer in its sauce for 20 minutes more.
  6. Serve with ciabatta roll and homemade barbecue sauce (recipe also available in this website)

Note:

If you want a more earthy flavor you can lined your pot with banana leaves before adding the pork. Banana leaves gives the meat a distinctive flavor and aroma almost like a Hawaiian kalua pig.

This pulled pork is perfect to make a sandwich but you can also use this as a filling for taco or even with steamed rice, however you prefer it.

Mix all the dry rub ingredients.
Spread the dry rub all over the pork.
Marinate overnight.
