Very easy and inexpensive to make, mashed potatoes are probably one of the most versatile side dishes, as it can compliment so many meals! From fried chicken, to steak, and so forth, mashed potatoes, especially with the addition of gravy, can make any main dish special.
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup half and half or milk
- 5 cloves roasted garlic
- 5 tbsp butter
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp white pepper
Directions:
- In a pot, add the potatoes and 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil and simner for 30 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Drain in a colander.
- In another pot, heat the half and half, butter, salt and pepper.
- Pour in the cooked potatoes and add the roasted garlic.
- Using your handheld blender, puree the potatoes until smooth.
- Keep warm.
For the Gravy:
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp McCormick brown gravy sauce
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp butter
Directions:
- Bring the water to a boil.
- Dissolve the gravy mix in a tablespoon of tap water and add to the boiling water. Stir.
- Add the pepper and butter and mix until smooth.
- Serve with warm mashed potatoes. Yummy!
Note:
If you don’t have a handheld blender, you can use a potato masher or potato press.
