This recipe was given to me by my friend nanay Puring. When she first served this to us at her home, I told myself I wasn’t leaving unless she gave me the recipe! After some begging, she finally gave it (it didn’t take long!). This recipe tastes exactly like the one they serve at a famous food chain called Chow King! It’s sweet, salty and just delicious! 😋
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 lbs brisket, trimmed and cubed
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup soysauce
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup coconut vinegar
- 1 big yellow onion, finely chopped
- 4 pcs star anise
- 5 pcs bay leaves
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 5 pcs spring onions
- 2 pcs carrots, sliced thinly
Directions:
- In a big pot, (pressure cooker is best) add the brisket, soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, onions, carrots, star anise, bay leaves, and pepper.
- Boil and simmer for 2 hours.
- Dissolve the cornstarch in 1/4 cup water. Add this to the meat while stirring constantly.
- Continue stirring until the sauce is thick.
- Add the carrots and simner for five minutes or just until the carrots is tender.
- Serve with hot steamed rice.
- Top with spring onions.
- Enjoy!
Note:
Before adding the cornstarch, make sure to skim all the fat from the surface.
