Philly Cheesesteak

I put a little bit of my own twist into this cheesesteak recipe by marinating the meat first in soy sauce and lemon mixture. This infuses the meat with so much flavor versus just sauteeing it in butter. I should probably call this the “Fili (filipino) Cheesesteak.” (cricket chirps)

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs sirloin
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp ground pepper
  • 1/2 of green bellpepper, cut into long strips
  • 1 small yellow onion, sliced into rings
  • 4 oz button mushrooms, sliced thinly
  • Provolone cheese or mozarella cheese slices
  • 1 1/2 cup grated mozarella cheese
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 bolillos
  • Japanese mayonnaise

Directions:

  • Slice the beef into very thin slices (against the grain).
  • Marinate the beef for two hours or overnight.
  • In a small saucepan, add 2 tbsp butter. Add the garlic and saute for a few minutes.
  • Add the meat and cook until browned.
  • Add the onions and saute until soft.
  • Add the mushrooms and bellpepper. Saute until vegetables are tender.
  • Add the grated cheese and turn off the heat.
  • Spread each bun with Japanese mayonnaise.
  • Layer the sliced cheese on the bread.
  • Add the steak.
  • Wrap the sandwich in aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
  • Serve while warm. Enjoy!

Note:

If you prefer a crispier sandwich you can bake the sandwich without wrapping it in foil. Just simply place it in a baking pan and bake.
