Vietnamese Pho

Pho is probably one of the most popular Vietnamese soups right now, and it’s a personal favorite! The broth gets its depth of flavor from simmering the beef broth for several hours. And the rice noodles, fresh vegetables and thin slices of beef makes me salivate just by talking about it! It’s ingredients are very inexpensive. It’s great for chilly weather, but is also a year-round hit. Follow this recipe and learn how to make one of today’s trending dishes!

Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs beef bones, shank and bone marrow
  • 1 packet pho soup mix
  • 3 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp beef base
  • 1 medium red onion, sliced thinly
  • Bean sprout
  • Jalapeno, sliced thinly
  • Mint leaves
  • Rice noodles

Directions:

  1. In a big pot, place the bone marrow, beef bones and shank. Add water to cover.
  2. Add the pho mix, sugar, fish sauce and pepper. Bring to a boil and simmer for 2 hours. I use my Instapot or pressure cooker to cut the cooking time in half.
  3. In another pot, add water and bring to a boil. Add the noodles and cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Place in a colander to drain all the liquids.
  4. To serve, place about a cup of noodles in a bowl and add the broth and some meat.
  5. Add the sliced onions, bean sprout, mint leaves, and sliced jalapeno on top.
  6. Serve while warm. Yum!😋
