The very first time I made this brisket was during our very first family barbecue. Everyone loved it, and although we were sure to maintain social distancing, our neighbors did too! At the time, I was experimenting with this recipe for the first time. I had over half of the brisket left, and after seeing the success of this attempt, there was no question what the rest was used for! Brisket burrito!
Ingredients:
- 4 lbs brisket, trimmed
- 2 tbsp salt
- 2 tbsp coarse ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 3 tbsp onion powder
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp dried thyme
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 2 tsp cumin
- 2 tsp celery salt
- 1 tbsp dry mustard
- 2 tbsp crushed bay leaves
Directions:
- Trim the fat from the brisket.
- Wash and dry with paper towels.
- Mix all the dry seasonings.
- Rub this on the meat, on both sides and around the edges.
- Transfer onto a dish and let marinate in the fridge overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 325*F.
- Unwrap the brisket and lay it on a baking sheet lined with foil. Cover with foil.
- Bake for 3 to 4 hours, or until the meat is tender.
- Let the brisket rest for at least 30 minutes.
- Slice the brisket against the grain.
- Serve with barbecue sauce (although it might not even need it!).
- Enjoy!
