Chicken Teriyaki

Sweet, salty and spicy, this chicken teriyaki tastes pretty close to what you’d get from a restaurant! It’s my son’s favorite dish whenever we go, but this recipe takes it place any day!

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs chicken thigh or breast
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 3 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp mirin or sake
  • 3 tbsp orange juice (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 3 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 c water
  • Spring onion
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, oyster sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, orange juice, ginger, garlic, and mirin.
  2. Add the meat and marinate for 2 hrs or overnight.
  3. In a heated pan, add 3 tbsp oil and meat (reserve the marinade). Saute until tender. (You can also grill the meat if you prefer)
  4. Transfer the meat into a platter.
  5. Add the marinade to the pan and let it simmer.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the water and cornstarch. Add this to the marinade while stirring constantly.
  7. Put the meat back onto the pan and stir until combined.
  8. Add the sesame seeds and spring onions.
  9. Serve with steamed broccoli, carrots, and warm rice.

Note:

I usually make another batch of the marinade for extra sauce or as a drizzle.
