To make this unique, I used white wine, and made sure to use butter flavored grits. Shrimp and sausage is a great combination,. The result is a tasty, comforting dish that’s simple to make!
Ingredients:
- 5 strips bacon, sliced
- 1 kielbasa sausage or any kind of sausage of your choice
- 1 1/2 lbs medium sized shrimp, shelled and deveined
- 5 cloves garlic, sliced thinly
- 1 medium sized yellow onion
- 4 oz button mushrooms, sliced thinly
- 1/ 4 cup parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper
For the Grits::
- 1 box (12 packets) butter flavored grits
- 6 cups water
- 1 1/3 cup half and half
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
Directions:
- In a heated pan, add the chopped bacon. Cook until golden brown.
- Add the sausage and fry until golden brown.
- Next, add the garlic and onion and saute until the onion is translucent.
- .Add the parsley and chopped mushrooms. Saute for a few minutes.
- Add the shrimp and saute for a few seconds.
- Add two cups of white wine in the pan and scrape all the yummy brown bits. (this will give so much flavor to the sauce!)
- Bring a pot with 6 cups of water to a boil.
- Add the grits while stirring.
- Add the parmesan cheese and stir.
- Add the half and half. Stir until the grits is smooth and thick. Cover with the lid.
- To serve, add about 1 cup of grits on the plate.
- Add the shrimp and sausage mixture on top.
- Drizzle some of the yummy sauce and serve! Enjoy while its hot!
Note:
Bacon and sausage will render a lot of fat, which will add a depth of flavor to the dish. But if you’d like it more healthy, remove all the fat and add two tablespoon of olive oil instead.
